I expressed this a little last year, but to me I think the league may have figured him out or at least caught onto him. His strikeout total was a paltry 39 in 60 innings last year. For a closer this is pitiful. His command was less than average and I think opposing batters may have figured out that his only real weapon is his slider and if you can lay off it he throws a very straight fastball which is hittable. While I’m willing to accept that Perez had a down year last year, I think Pestano is much better suited given his strikeout totals and command to be the closer. I really think that this year, more than any we cannot afford to give away games in the 9th and 10th innings especially when the Tigers have an elite closer in Valverde. What are the chances that Pestano becomes the closer if Perez struggles? Or is Acta/Antoinetti dead set with Perez for the whole year?Adamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663077750759819578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-79336141718334442952012-02-20T09:55:43.395-05:002012-02-20T09:55:43.395-05:00Speaking of which, look at the Royals current batc...Speaking of which, look at the Royals current batch of great, young talent...also a product of very poor seasons resulting in high draft picks.

Kudos to the Tribe organization for being competitive over the last decade or two.Halifaxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16712626480683595819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-4159330727588890942012-02-20T09:53:55.225-05:002012-02-20T09:53:55.225-05:00There's a reason the Rays are the "except...There's a reason the Rays are the "exception." It's called being so bad for so long that you get to draft in the top five every year for six straight off=seasons. All of those high picks paid off in wins. Granted, they have made some wise decisions in the process, but there is no substitution for high-end talent.

Thinking back to the Tribe picking high, the only ones I can remember are Paul Shuey (slight miss) and Drew Pomeranz.Halifaxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16712626480683595819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-14263482317610548982012-02-19T22:19:05.228-05:002012-02-19T22:19:05.228-05:00CF,

Cespedes' deal is similar to the one that Alexei Ramirez got from the White Sox, in that it is for a set amount of time and takes that "clock" out of the equation.

That ability to be a FA in 4 years is apparently a major deciding factor for Cespedes being an A.Paul Cousineauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03490622970961409253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-48379186728888356572012-02-19T10:18:52.267-05:002012-02-19T10:18:52.267-05:00Are the rules different for an INTERNATIONAL free ...Are the rules different for an INTERNATIONAL free agent who has never been signed before? We all know about service time and how, the clock starts ticking for six years before free agency. But Kevin Goldstein writes, Because of the length of the deal – it was designed to return him to free agency as a 30-year-old. That is 4 years as he is 26 now.Cleveland Fanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04274150358015254259noreply@blogger.com
