Good Lord, I hope not.
I like to think that...peter,
Good Lord, I hope not.
I like to think that the original text went something like this:
"David Dellucci, the man Indians' fans, from those with an understanding of what OPS and VORP is to a general understanding of what a decent-to-good baseball player looks like loved to hate, has been designated for assignment..."

I like to think that it was just edited to the "bloggers" part. What's too bad is that Hoynes throws this net over anybody else but himself saying things like "for whatever reason" in terms of why people were down on Dellucci when, in fact, the reasons are too long to list in one space.

Why can't Hoynes just throw out there something like AC did, who said:
Regarding the David Dellucci move, there's not much more to add that hasn't been said already. The guy just didn't perform here. But there's an old expression, "I don't blame you, I blame the guy who hired you." That's how I feel about the Dellucci situation. I didn't know then and I don't know now what the Indians were thinking when they gave a platoon outfielder a three-year contract. But mistakes happen, I guess.

AC neither takes a cheap shot at the player, nor does he try to pretend that Dellucci wasn't a monumental mistake, particularly in the length of the contract.

Trust me, I've tried to justify Dellucci's existence on this roster (to the point that the poop-ice cream analogy came up) and still will say that when he was signed that I had no problem with it because of his time in Texas and Philly. But The Looch in Cleveland wasn't a viable player, regardless of his contract, and he was on borrowed time going back to last year.

This just ends the Era of Dellucci.Paul Cousineauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03490622970961409253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-13859710003923800372009-05-29T17:12:27.405-04:002009-05-29T17:12:27.405-04:00When Hoynes wrote:

It's last year's team (which wasn't that bad) minus Todd Jones (no real loss) but plus Rick Porcello, who has an outside chance of winning 20 games as a rookie.

My guess is Huff goes down unless Ohka bombs out. And as far as Westbrook goes, I'd like to see the Indians ease him in as a long reliever when he gets back, since he's unlikely to be his old self at first, and probably not until 2010.Hydehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03984348525069741897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-21774209705062124802009-05-29T14:58:33.783-04:002009-05-29T14:58:33.783-04:00ESPN.COM >> "Injury-plagued Dellucci designa...ESPN.COM >> "Injury-plagued Dellucci designated"Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
