The story is wrong about Sizemore becoming a free agent in 2012 (his club option year), but that didn't stop the Channel 19 joker from repeating it and fanning the flames.

So what do you think: Strasburg, Harper, Zimmerman straight up for Sizemore and Carmona? Or is Antonetti going to make the Nats send cash in the deal?R.M. Or Thome, or Omar?

I'm appreciative of how the Indians are 'going about their business.' A good plan, well-executed. 20...Can't wait until baseball starts up again.

2005 was a disaster because of another Eric Wedge-led team's typical slow start that got the team behind the 8-ball. Maybe it was his fault, maybe not, but it seemed to happen quite often. I think if the Tribe was in contention in mid-season the ownership tries to do something there, but not while 12 games out of first.

Solid starts are so important for any team not located in Houston. Especially for young teams like 2011's version of the Indians. Whether you think there is enough talent in place or not, a fast start gets in these young guys' heads and THEY think there is enough talent, and that's the primary thing that matters, because I think there is enough physical ability there, just not enough experience and people who know how to win. But as we've seen with teams like the 1995 bunch, winning (and pie-facing in 2007) is contagious.Halifaxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16712626480683595819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-68508461710095328642011-01-24T12:44:07.349-05:002011-01-24T12:44:07.349-05:00Jeff,
Thanks for the unnecessarily kind words and ...Jeff,
Thanks for the unnecessarily kind words and you're right about expectations vs. action playing a role in the perception of the off-season.

Maybe because I'm getting antsy for some baseball or because I (unfortunately) waded into some bottom-of-the-barrel sports talk last week that entered "hostile and irrational" territory. The thing is that I have no idea how Moore's comments are received in KC, but I know that every time the Indians have been mentioned locally by the MSM, it devolves into a joke about Snow Days or a "DOLANZ R CHEEP" manifesto, stooping to a level of idiocy that it's getting to me.

The two points on the '05 "failure" and the oft-repeated refrain that the Indians didn't spend when the time was right when those contracts were given out to keep their own "core" intact are better illustrations than I could dream of to point out the obtuseness of a particular faction of Cleveland fans.

Trust me, there's plenty to criticize about the Indians and what led to the quick tear-down after the early-to-mid-2000s rebuild, but people remain focused on the same, tired points that it becomes increasingly frustrating.Paul Cousineauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03490622970961409253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-17658143503921443222011-01-23T14:26:26.397-05:002011-01-23T14:26:26.397-05:00I realized last night that I look forward to your ...I realized last night that I look forward to your Lazy Sundays just as I used to look forward to reading Peter Gammons' Sunday notes column in the Globe. The difference is that I don't need to find a newsstand that carries out-of-town papers like I did back then. Thank you Internet and thank you Paul.

That being said, a couple of quibbles. This off-season hasn't been horrible for me. Nor, I believe, has it for anyone who had reasonable expectations. I think that includes you, or did you really want to see the 40-man littered with the Geoff Blums (2 year deal at age 37) or Kevin Kouzmanoffs (Jayson Nix w/defense...at 10x the salary!) of the world?

Also, I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree about what's been "spouting" from the Tribe marketing dept. Again, calm, rational explanations like Dayton Moore's simply aren't going to fly in a hostile, irrational market like Cleveland. Have you forgotten how contending on schedule in '05 was dismissed as a failure because of the last week's collapse? Or how spending on Hafner, Westbrook, Wood, Sizemore, etc. isn't really "spending when the time is right"?

It's a losing battle, and the Indians are wise not to fight it other than by building a consistent winner between the lines.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05274441819255042197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-30338943757972181052011-01-23T09:15:49.964-05:002011-01-23T09:15:49.964-05:00“with John Hart wheeling and dealing and the India...“with John Hart wheeling and dealing and the Indians being major players on the FA market (thanks to the revenue stream provided by a new ballpark)”

Don’t forget the importance of not having the Browns. The sellout streak started after the Browns left and ended when they came back. The Indians revenue had to be impacted significantly by the Browns’ absence.scotto313https://www.blogger.com/profile/17579848474407465092noreply@blogger.com
