I wouldn't be surprised if Marte is auditioning for another team, leaving LaPorta at first, Brantley in left, and Brown to back them both up (plus DH depending on Hafner).

And Paul, I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it :-)Eliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17515173441876386256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-11122274649673014242009-09-14T04:03:57.413-04:002009-09-14T04:03:57.413-04:00Elia, I understand your perspective and discussed ...Elia, I understand your perspective and discussed this topic ad nauseum this past week on the Indians Prospect Insider web site. I urge you to read Tony Lastoria's excellent recap of the Brown situation from Sunday morning as well as check out the msg boards where I was merely one of several people who dissected it from nearly every angle. I didn't mean to rehash that debate here. I just wanted to applaud Jordan for his comments and I hope (for his sake) they facilitate his exodus from this organization. B/c I don't care if there was even one AB for him this month in the majors, I think he should have been rewarded for his production and consistency not only this season but throughout his Indians career and I disagree fundamentally with how the org handled him. It simply communicates the wrong msg to Brown and others around him and the approach to me represents some of the main reasons why the product on the field in Cleveland has been so disappointing.Joel Shapirahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17146489089620419469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-89263324036786268152009-09-13T21:37:43.812-04:002009-09-13T21:37:43.812-04:00Thanks Elia, I appreciate it.Thanks Elia, I appreciate it.Paul Cousineauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03490622970961409253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-58130722218797651702009-09-13T15:56:43.263-04:002009-09-13T15:56:43.263-04:00I appreciate your feeling, Joel, but completely di...I appreciate your feeling, Joel, but completely disagree with your assessment. In my mind, they know what they are getting with Brown: a solid hitting ballplayer who can play left and first base reasonably well (but needs improvement). He's also on the wrong side of 25 to be considered a prospect any more. He's a nice player but probably an extra piece. And while I appreciate the fire in Brown's belly and hope I'm completely wrong and he turns into the second coming of Tony Gwynn, I'm not counting on it.

This team has got to figure out what to do with Marte. Is he destined to play first base next year or not? And if not, can he show enough promise to get something for him this offseason?

So who are you going to sit to play Brown? Brantley? LaPorta? Marte? These three are some of the premier position players in the organization (or, at least in Marte's case, were considered so at one point in time).

Was it ridiculous to make the comment and then sit Marte for two straight games? Sure was. But that doesn't change the fact that there's only 20 or 30 at bats for Brown the rest of this season in a Tribe jersey.Eliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17515173441876386256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-49657634594266381392009-09-13T15:37:58.521-04:002009-09-13T15:37:58.521-04:00Brown's public comments just made him my favor...Brown's public comments just made him my favorite player (currently) in the Indians organization. It represents just the right amount of fire and confidence that the major league team and its vanilla-flavored roster has lacked in the Wedge-era.

It's too bad he'll almost certainly never play in Cleveland for this org. I don't care what Tony L. hears from insiders, the team's actions (or inactions) as it relates to Brown speak volumes about how he's 'valued'. I'll be shocked if he makes it on their roster this winter. He'll be traded within the first 60 days of the offseason or even left unprotected, despite what they are saying now about what they 'plan' to do.
"chitowntribephan"Joel Shapirahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17146489089620419469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-49995476321191746262009-09-13T11:08:37.008-04:002009-09-13T11:08:37.008-04:00Congrats on another "pick-up" by the loc...Congrats on another "pick-up" by the local paper. Terry seems to reference you more than any other outside writer these days.

I started following you back in the Pat Tabler days, and over the past few years have felt your writing and analysis has improved (and it was good before).

Writing is hard and takes tons of time. I read my rss feeds in reverse order -- good writers to great ones. You've made it to the top of the heap! With that, I just wanted to say thanks and keep up the great work.

Sincerely, from one displaced Clevelander in Portland, OR,

EliaEliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17515173441876386256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11805401.post-70099425885077231802009-09-13T10:10:35.539-04:002009-09-13T10:10:35.539-04:00I was at an Aeros game in June seated right behind...I was at an Aeros game in June seated right behind the Aeros on deck circle and made a joking comment to my friend about Matt McBride "looking cheesy" with his pencil-thin mustache. I didn't mean to be a jerk, but I think he overheard me because after he doubled and scored in his at-bat he glared up at us (we were pretty obviously the only people that could have been overheard).

I think it would be nice if we signed Omar next year (I know, I know). If he'd sign for one million he'd provide his superb defense, bring people to the ballpark and tutor a young pair of 24-year old middle infielders whose pitching staff is probably headed by 4 sinkerballers (Westbrook, Laffey, Masterson and Carmona). Just a thought.Alex Trebekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03477543276098427089noreply@blogger.com
