The Dominican Dandy

In case Aaron Boone didn't have his toiletry kit packed yet, Andy Marte won the AAA Home Run Derby.

Be sure to click on the link above, then watch the video, and fast-forward to about the 2:55 mark to see Marte's 2nd round, when he was absolutely crushing ball after ball.

As the announcers said, he has "easy power" and a "natural stroke".

Tell me again why STO doesn't show this kind of stuff to give their prospects some exposure and hype?

Buster Olney today, and Huff just went to Houston...

• Looks like Vinny Castilla is on the verge of losing his role with the Padres. An out-of-the-box box possibility comes to mind -- maybe San Diego would swap Castilla for Ronnie Belliard of the Indians and play Belliard at third base. An obvious possibility is Aubrey Huff of the Rays, who has played a decent third base this year, not showing a lot of range but catching everything hit to him.

you'd have to think though with any minor league games you'd have to see them delayed since the tribe would most likely be playing at the same time.

Does anyone else besides me start to well up a little bit when ESPN shows those "Make a Wish" segments on Sportscenter? It's the kind of well up that you really got to fight off while you're watching it.

I agree with Crattus that our infield fielding ability (along with the pen) needs to be adressed, either now or in the offseason. I also see though, that Belliard is BY FAR our best option at 2nd base at this point. So where does that leave me? Let's just say I may wait ANOTHER year to get the MLB package.

Not to say that winning the HR derby isn't exciting, but let's all keep in mind that Brady Anderson won the MLB Derby. Incidentally, Brady went on to play for the Tribe years later, hitting a SOLID .164 through 34 games.

Did anyone see what Big Ben said to ESPN? Good stuff.

"That day I wasn't, I forgot it. I literally forgot it," he said. "You know there are times that, people that have been making a big deal for the last couple years about me riding first of all, and then me riding without a helmet, but it's one of those things that I ride with a helmet also. I do a little bit of both. If you don't wear a seat belt every time you ride in the car should I label you as a person who doesn't wear a seat belt? And unfortunately I happened to not have it on that day because I forgot it in the basement."

Um, yes, you should be labeled as such. If you only smoke crack sometimes, is it fair to label you as a crackhead?

One of the best lines I've heard about Rothlisberger is that he "wasted a concussion" off the field.
